Presentation
Cultural Development Foundation “Mesma”
On September 8, the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre hosted a special cultural event—the official presentation of the Cultural Development Foundation “Mesma.” It was an evening that brought together renowned artists, talented young students, and individuals who dedicate themselves daily to the development of Georgian culture on one stage.
At the event, the Foundation’s Director, Nini Japaridze, addressed the guests, spoke about initiatives already implemented and future plans, and presented a teaser of the final short film by the great Georgian director Eldar Shengelaia—a work that was voiced with the Foundation’s support during the director’s lifetime.
She officially announced cooperation with the country’s leading arts universities—the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, the State University of Theatre and Film, the Academy of Arts, and Batumi Arts University. Through this partnership, “Mesma” once again reaffirmed its mission to support the education and creative advancement of the younger generation. For this reason, as part of the presentation, students were awarded the Foundation’s first scholarships, recognizing their dedication and talent.
The evening’s creative team was assembled to an exceptionally high standard:
• Director: Davit Saqvarelidze
• Music Director: Nika Nikvashvili
• Hosts: Nikoloz Tsulukidze and Piza Sekania
Within the diverse program, a wide range of vocal and instrumental genres followed one another. The performers included Nika Nikvashvili and the Orchestra, Nino Surguladze, Natalia Kutateladze, Iano Alibegashvili, Giorgi Lomiseli, Nanka Gvari, Meko and the Band, Valerian Shiukashvili, Lela Mchedlidze and the Quartet of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, as well as the Choir of the Patriarchate of Georgia.
A special touch to the evening was added by the joint performance of Nani Bregvadze, Eka Mamaladze, and Natalia Kutateladze—warm, nostalgic, and at the same time full of life—leaving the entire hall filled with an elevated shared emotion.
Another memorable moment of the event was Nikoloz Tsulukidze’s narrative, “Unknown Stories,” in which he shared with the audience stories about great Georgian patrons—Mitrofane Laghidze, Niko Nikoladze, Ivane Javakhishvili, Elisabed Orbeliani, Davit Sarajishvili, and Dimitri Kipiani—public figures who made an immense contribution to the development of Georgian culture.
The event concluded in an exceptionally warm atmosphere—the beloved song “Tbiliso” by Revaz Laghidze was performed on stage once again by Nani Bregvadze together with all the participants… a final culmination that remained an unforgettable memory for everyone.
The evening ended with applause, a sense of togetherness, and the belief that “Mesma” has truly become a platform that unites all generations and shapes a new cultural era in Georgia.
